Memory: The Unreliable Narrator is an installation I created in 2022 based on an early childhood memory. This project combines woodworking, lighting design, video, and sound to create the ambiguous ambiance of a memory.

The reconstruction process of memory is unreliable in nature. Memories become entangled with emotions, dreams, and abstract thought which produce entirely new experiences than those we have actually lived. The process of reconstruction is messy, convoluted, and uncertain. In the process of memory reconstruction, we all become the unreliable narrator.

Memory: The Unreliable Narrator contrasts a memory which I remember so vividly, but is uncorroborated by my family with actual life events that took place that I do not remember. This installation calls to the viewer and asks them to challenge their own biases in relation to the recall of their memories.
