Carve/Crave is a plaster sculpture I created in 2022 to highlight the lack of representation of women in the field of sculpture.
Only 4% of artwork sold at major auction houses worldwide is created by women as of 2022.
Artwork created by women makes up 3–5% of permanent collections in the U.S.
As a woman pursuing a predominantly male field, I am forced to break through the barriers that have been put up around me and mold myself into someone who does not back down to the pressures of the dominant voice.
The exclusion of a majority of bodily features acts as an homage to the countless female artists who have been, and will continue to be, neglected by the fine arts community.
